Kata
Kenshin Karate Kata are based on fourteen classical kata of Okinawan Shorin-ryu. With a lot of today's emphasis being on competition, many styles of karate focus on scoring. While this is imperative to win at tournaments this methodology breaks many traditions and kata lose some of their content and purpose. The kata may look good on the surface but true technique is lost. Master Yokoyama has done in-depth research and has chosen one of the world's most classical systems which has not changed appreciably through the generations and has not lost any of its original techniques.
Master Yokoyama also teaches tournament kata and kumite for those students who desire the experiences of competition. His students enjoy the best of both worlds while understanding the differences between the two and how and when to use the different mindsets and techniques. Master Yokoyama has also added several tournament kata that are taught in conjunction with the traditional ones.
